About KSREC

Functioning as an autonomous body under the Department of Planning & Economic Affairs, KSREC engages in research, training, awareness programs, and applications of Remote Sensing and GIS in land and water resource management, environmental monitoring, and more.

Kerala State Remote Sensing and Environment Centre (KSREC), established in 1995 under the National Natural Resources Management System (NNRMS), operates under the Government of Kerala as per G.O. (MS) No.22/95/Planning dated 29/08/1995.

Functioning of the Centre

To achieve the objectives, the Centre will:
  • Build-up a firm database on natural resources and other related information for local and regional level by utilizing the existing data from conventional as well as other new technological methods.
  • Conduct training courses to officers and staff of Government departments and other agencies in the application of new techniques in the field of land and environment management.
  • Establish and maintain a library of books, periodicals, and other documents relating to subjects of interest to the functioning of the Centre.
  • Establish a computer-based data storage, processing, and retrieval system in collaboration with the National Informatics System to meet the data requirements for the planning and decision-making agencies.
  • Other acts and deeds included to the objectives – All other acts and deeds as are conducive or incidental to the achievement of all or any of the objectives for which the Centre is established.
