GEO SPATIAL INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL INFORMATION FOR THIRUVANANTHAPURAM DISTRICT

Archaeology is the study of past through material remains. Protection and conservation of Archaeological sites and monuments adds to the heritage of a place.Thiruvananthapuram district possesses a large number of archaeological monuments and sites.Remote Sensing is a powerful tool for the collection and classification of spatial data. The knowledge based proper interpretation of satellite remote sensing data with limited field surveys provides valuable information in quick time. The data generated from satellite imageries provide information on the archaeological sites. Remote Sensing helps in identification and study of sites. It also helps in intrasite analysis and buffer analysis. Using Remote Sensing it is easy to study earth surface and can identify even under lying structures.


OBJECTIVES
• To prepare a Spatial database of Archaeological sites and institutions on 1:12500 scale.
• To identify Archaeological sites, monuments and Institutions of Thiruvananthapuram district.
• To serve as a database on Archaeological sites and monuments of Thiruvananthapuram district
• To develop an user friendly software for easy study and management of Archaeological sites and monuments.
